Visiting Watch Hill, Rhode Island – Social Distance Edition

Is anyone out there? Oh, hi. Yes – it’s me again. I know we’ve been radio silent over here since April 16th — omg. As my mom continues to tell me, “Lauren – if you stop posting, you will loose all of your followers.” What’s most surprising is that my traffic has been the highest it’s ever been since launching my little corner of the web over 9 years ago. Hopefully if you’re reading this, you haven’t given up on me yet or at least like to follow along on Instagram or Pinterest. 🙂

Anywho, Josh and I just got back from our first socially distanced weekend getaway in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. What I love most about visiting Watch Hill is that you can get there in two and half hours from Manhattan, the neighborhoods/homes are stunning and the ocean views are incredible! Remember when we visited for the Ocean House Polo Match? We wore our masks the entire trip, ate meals outside as much as possible and we didn’t have any hotel staff come in to clean our room throughout our stay. Overall we felt safe during our trip and hope to do another similar weekend trip later this summer!

If you’re looking to escape to Watch Hill this summer, we recommend staying at the Watch Hill Inn! It’s not as expensive as Ocean House, however, you get all of the benefits of Ocean House including the beach access which in my opinion is everything!

Here’s a quick list of some of our favorite things to do in the area:

  • Grab breakfast or lunch at the Ocean House Verandah – not many people know about it, the tables are spaced out and the views are incredible! Dinner outside on their Seaside Terrace is also a must.
  • Stop in Stonington, Connecticut for a charming New England experience and to visit a few antique stores like Cosign and Design or Grand and Water Antiques.
  • Grab sandwiches to-go at Ten Sandwiches before heading to the beach – a few of the best beaches in the area include Watch Hill Beach, Westerly Beach or East Beach.
  • Pick up a t-shirt or hat at Island Outfitters and really cute home decor at Bay Breeze Interiors
  • Stop by the Weekapaug Inn for drinks on the lawn followed by a three course dinner.
  • Last but not least, walk around the neighborhoods to check out the stunning coastal homes! The one below is one of my favorites I’ve seen on Instagram and accidentally stumbled upon during one of our walks.

Get The Look, Nancy Meyers Edition | Something’s Gotta Give Dining Room

Ok!! We’re back by popular demand — Get The Look, Nancy Meyers Edition!!! Today’s blog post is dedicated to Something’s Gotta Give Dining Room. I’m so glad many of you, like me, are watching all of Nancy Meyers movies on repeat right now! Oh, and in case you missed it – don’t miss my Somethings Gotta Give Living Room blog post. Is it time to start house hunting in Sagaponeck yet?

A few things I learned when researching behind-the-scene details of the Something’s Gotta Give dinning room – Beth Rubino found the beautiful round dinning table at Rose Tarlow in Los Angeles where you can still shop similar versions today! I included the Hobbs table in my roundup below – isn’t she a beaut? The design team also incorporated Lee Sofa’s Bordeaux Toile fabric on the chairs but unfortunately it has since been discontinued. The good news is you can easily find a similar toile fabric on Decorators Best — or this print from Kravet is beautiful.

What I love most about the dining room scene is that many of the details are easy for us to replicate. I searched high and low for the water and wine goblets that most closely replicate the ones in the movie and found the Perigord Wineglass Set from La Rochelle & the Edward Goblets Set from Williams Sonoma!

Get The Look, Nancy Meyers Edition | Something’s Gotta Give Movie Set Decor

Today I’m so excited to launch my latest Get The Look Series — Nancy Meyers edition! It’s safe to say that I’ve been obsessed with every movie Nancy Meyers has produced over the course of her career. From Father of the Bride to the Parent Trap to Something’s Gotta Give, in this new series I’ll be breaking down the movie sets we have come to know and love over the past 30 years. I’ll be sharing sources, similar products & how we can all get the look of the most beautiful, fictional homes.

First up — the movie set decor from the Something’s Gotta Give living room!

I searched the internet high and low for sources and information I could find as it relates to the decor in the Something’s Gotta Give Hamptons house. One of the best articles was published in Arch Digest — linked here!

So here’s the scoop —

The beautiful (and gigantic!) blue and white striped dhurrie was a massive antique rug that set designer, Beth Rubino, ended  up re-working in order to fit the move set. Some articles suggest this rug was purchased at “Aspen Rug Company” but I have yet to find this rug company online. However, one lucky blogger was able to spot it a DDD Charity Event in Southampton and now has it her bedroom! She also mentioned in her blog post that the color of the English Country sofas from the movie were actually very light eggshell blue linen vs. white as they appear on-screen. Movie trickery, I tell ya!

The good news is — you can easily find a classic blue and white striped Dhurrie on Etsy or House of Dhurries! Annie Selke and Ralph Lauren are two other great resources for blue and white striped rugs.

The art above the fireplace is speculated to be a reproduction of a painting by Edward Henry Potthast, an  impressionist artist that painted many seaside pieces. I always recommend Serena and Lily or One Kings Lane for similar seaside pieces to help you get the look.

The white clock in the living room was a Morten Monberg — you can shop a similar version at Ballard Designs.

From a 2004 interview with Beth Rubino with the Set Decorators Society, Beth mentioned that the living room drapes were linen with box hem-stitching to allow movement of the air. The design team also incorporated different densities of sheers to slightly obstruct or diffuse the light. I personally have these ivory linen drapes from Pottery Barn that I think would compliment any beach house decor.

Last but not least, per the Arch Digest article — the fabric on the ottoman is by Clearance House and the chair fabric is by Mimi House London.

Top Easter Tabletop Decor
In case you love setting a table as much as I do, today I’m sharing my top easter tabletop decor from Williams Sonoma, Tory Burch & more!

Although Easter will look a little different for millions of families across the country this year, it shouldn’t stop us from setting the table! Today I’m rounding up some classic Easter tabletop decor.

A few Easter favorites —

  • Williams Sonoma’s etched tabletop collection reminds me of late grandmothers everyday glasses – I love the hand etching in the floral motif.

  • If there is one collection I’ll be investing in next it’s Tory Burch’s Lettuce Ware tabletop — my girlfriend Nicole definitely inspired me here!
