Get The Look

Whenever I give advice to friends on how to style a new space or update their current one, I always suggest them to find images of bedrooms/living rooms/etc. that they like to help them mentally picture the room. Insert my friend Steph (this is the second time I’m talking about her apartment on this blog, btw) but I love helping her with her gorgeous Greenwich apartment. She is trying to figure out the best pillow scheme (with color, mind you) to compliment her very neutral/gray space. It’s much harder, though, for her than it is for me to picture what her couch will look like with colorful pillows with different patterns.
When I first started blogging on interiors, I also found this also quite hard – imagining what or how a space could come together with different products vs. the images I saw in magazines. Nowadays, I can get one of these posts done in 20 minutes. It’s become second nature for me to pull a photo of a space I love and find the products that correspond. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that I’m constantly searching for new products on a daily basis but it’s like a have a mental roster of where to find certain products (scary?). I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of finding inspirational images when it comes to interiors and trying to re-create the look, whether it be for myself or friends. Which brings me to today’s post. I found this image below and I thought it was too pretty, not to re-create. I also think your nightstand is one of the easiest and cheapest spaces to update. Do you agree?
When I saw this nightstand, I instantly thought of West Elm and their sleek Mid-Century dressers. Although I love the hardware more on the dresser in this photo, it would be quite easy to swap in new knobs on the one I found below. I also think West Elm’s Task Lamp is pretty identical to the one in this photo. Serena & Lily is my go-to resource for all things bedding. I’m obsessed with their border frame bedding for a classic, chic look. Last but not least, your nightstand is the perfect place to display your favorite reading materials. Insert Alexa Chung’s “It” book as shown here. Do you like this nightstand look? Let me know in the comment section below! Xo. Lauren

My Weekend In Sag Harbor With Cadillac
I cannot believe how quickly we are approaching Labor Day! This summer has been a blast and somehow I’ve managed to make my way to the Hamptons every weekend in August – not that I am complaining or anything – but this past weekend was particularly fun as Jess, Hallie and myself were invited to stay at a quaint cottage in Sag Harbor with Cadillac. The brand let us borrow a fabulous CTS all weekend so we could explore the various shops of Sag Harbor and South & East Hampton.
We also were invited to attend a few parties at a private estate thrown by Ivy Connect, a members only social networking group full of entrepreneurs and other young professionals – my kind of people. The private estate was preeeetty amazing. I would love to decorate a mansion or two with that type of property. It definitely confirmed that I need a house in the Hamptons at one point or another (wishful thinking?). Anywho, we attended a pool party during the day on Saturday followed by a cocktail charity event Saturday evening to benefit Building Blocks for Change.
Sunday we roamed around the downtown of Sag Harbor and East Hampton to get our shopping fix.
I absolutely love the Ralph Lauren store in East Hampton hidden among greenery and hydrangeas.
We also discovered this little antique shop in Sag Harbor. It had this amazing brass lamp for $1,400 dollars that needs a beautiful home stat. If I had the space, I’m pretty sure I would have invested in the lamp right on the spot. I also loved this tufted leather chair and trunk below.
After our shopping spree, we headed back to the pool for a little R&R. All in all it was a fabulous weekend getaway. A big thank you again to Cadillac for hosting us! Can’t wait for our next adventure. Xo. Lauren
Gray Malin
This past weekend, Jess, Hallie and I were invited out to the Hamptons with Cadillac (more on my weekend recap later this week) but Jess and I were talking about her new apartment. I love helping friends try to figure out their new space and brainstorm different ideas. Jess and I touched on Gray Malin and how she’d like to get a piece of his work – which of course, I strongly agreed with. If you haven’t heard of Gray Malin, let me introduce you. He is an LA based photographer who travels the world bringing inspiration to all. I particularly love his photographs of the world’s dreamiest beaches from a bird’s eye view. If you don’t recognize his name right away, I’m certain you have seen his work in a magazine or across Pinterest. My obsession with Gray began when I first saw this photograph. Later, when I took a peak at his website, I learned that I am quite actually obsessed with all of his work. Insert his Up and Away series. Love this “Windy” photograph from my beloved Chicago, this “Get Away” photograph or this “Ciao” photograph.
I feel like Gray does such an amazing job promoting himself and his work. I read an interview he did with Tory Burch here where he provided a bit of advice that really resonated with me. He explained how today is all about the internet (#yes). “Spread your wings and surf your heart out! Having a website is key. You never know where the internet will take you.” I think this is true not only because I have experienced this myself but also because this can be applied to so many individuals in different industries!
I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite pieces of Gray’s work below but definitely do yourself a favor and check out his entire collection here. You can follow along on Gray’s adventures on Facebook and Instagram. Are you as obsessed as I am now? Xo. Lauren
