One Room Challenge: The Final Reveal
52

Welcome to the One Room Challenge — the final reveal!

It’s been a busy six weeks but I’m so happy with how everything came together in my bedroom. In case you are just tuning in, myself and these interior design enthusiasts committed to designing a room in just six weeks. You can catch up on weeks one through five right here.

When I first started thinking about my re-design, I knew I wanted my bedroom to capture my evolving east coast style. I wanted to incorporate blue and white with a mix of Montauk inspired prints.

The first challenge I faced was deciding on a paint color — I ultimately went with BEHR’s blue me away and couldn’t be happier with the color! The blue is a super light shade but can also look darker at different points throughout the day based on the light. I would highly recommend this paint color if you’re looking for a light sea blue hue!

The next task on my list was finding the perfect (small) white desk that could double as my nightstand. After living in my apartment for 2 years without having a place to work (besides my couch), I thought it was time I treated myself to an appropriate work area!! I opted for West Elm’s Mini Mid-Century Desk which ended up fitting the exact dimensions between my bed and the wall. A huge win for a tiny space!

One of my absolute favorite moments throughout the one room challenge was working with the team over at Gray Malin! A BIG thank you to Gray and team for my Maroubra Swimmers piece.

I’ve been a fan of Gray’s work for years so I knew there wasn’t anyone else I wanted to work with for the statement piece above my bed. I debated between his La Dolce Vita series and A La Plage series for WEEKS. I opted for the Maroubra Swimmers piece because I felt like it hasn’t been overdone and I will be able to use this piece in future apartments/homes for years to come.

Now let’s talk bedding! I absolutely love Pottery Barn’s navy and white frame bedding. This bedding comes in a wide variety of colors and sizes to fit any sized bed. To help personalize my space even further, I worked with Sue over at the Zhush on my monogrammed pillows! I incorporated a second set of navy and white striped pillows from Society Social that helped me create a balanced yet layered look. The sheets are Brooklyn & Bond which you can pick up at Target!

I moved my Ikea Kallax Bookshelf which was where my desk currently is located and moved it to a different corner of my room. It is now being put to use as my jewelry stand. There’s nothing prettier than displaying all of your baubles in one place! Another trick that is always stylish is using Diptqyue vases as a brush holder. The gold mirrored tray you can find at World Market and is only $29.99.

Last but not least, I had the best experience working with the team over at the Shade Store. I opted for their Standard Woven Wood Shade in Seaview-6. Adding this custom shade really helped me achieve the Hampton’s style that I adore right here in the city!

I am convinced I’ll never live without custom shades again. To complete the window, I chose Pottery Barn’s Emery Linen Drapes in White and paired them with West Elm’s oversized brass hardware. The curtains are thick enough to keep the light out yet give my bedroom a relaxed finish.

I had so much fun participating in this falls One Room Challenge. Be sure to check out all the other participants over on Calling It Home’s website! One Room Challenge: Week Five
5

Welcome to week five of the One Room challenge!!! Can you believe it? With only seven days to go, it’s serious crunch time. In case you are just tuning in, myself and all of these beautiful people are redesigning a room in 6 weeks. It’s safe to say that Week 1 feels like decades ago.

This week is all about the art of styling. I STILL need to finalize my gallery wall. #stressssss. I did decide on a few of the prints I shared last week including this one and this one from Minted. Don’t you love?

I finally set time up for the installation guy to come over to install my custom bamboo shades via the Shade Store. Thank goodness.

I finally have all my bedding in order – I’m seriously obsessed with my monogrammed pillow shams. A big thank you to Sue from the Zhush! P.s. She’s also taking part in the One Room Challenge so be sure to follow her progress here.

I also received my navy and white striped pillows from Roxy over at Society Social – also obsessed.

I went back to look at my original to-do list from week one and am very relieved that I’m almost done! I can’t wait to show you guys how everything is coming together. Be sure to tune in next Thursday for the Final Reveal – EEK!!!

  1. My super needs to paint these beautiful (and dirty) white walls of mine. I’m very excited to be partnering with BEHR on my paint color! After visiting Home Depot, I realized how many paint colors there are to pick from. How is a girl ever to decide?
  2.  I need a whole new gallery wall refresh.
  3. These gray and white striped curtains have got to go.
  4. Sam inspired me to invest in custom bamboo shades! So I will be partnering with the Shade Store to get these made! My samples are below. There are so many beautiful options – need to figure out the best option given my paint color and curtain material.
  5. Speaking of curtains, also need some beautiful new hardware – particularly brass.
  6. New bedding! All of the new bedding.
  7. A fun and colorful rug.
  8. Upholsterer custom x-benches utilizing a bold and colorful print!
  9. A new piece of art for above my bed which has already gotten delivered.
  10. Update my bedside table situation. I would really like to invest in a desk since I mostly work on my couch or bed at the moment. It’d be nice to have a more formal work space in here – somewhere…
  11. Last but not least, debating on investing in a new mirror for above my dresser. This one below I picked up from a flea market in Connecticut for $15 dollars. It might be about time to get a new one… thoughts?

One Room Challenge: Week Four
11

Alright, party people! Welcome to week FOUR of the One Room Challenge!!

I can’t believe we only have two weeks left. I have to admit, I did not get much done this week as I would have liked. Thankfully many new items did ship including my new Serena and Lily Montara mirror, wishbone chair for my desk and my Dash and Albert rug. I have to say, I’m pretty happy with how everything is coming together!!!

As a little reminder, here’s where we started:

Step One: Finalizing new bedroom paint color. Insert Berh’s Blue Me Away.

My inspiration board for some key pieces I shared in Week Two. I ended up with three out of the six pieces below. #winning!

Major desk updates I shared in Week Three. I still need to finalize how I want to style my desk as I don’t want to take away from my Gray Malin that will be above my bed.

One-Room-Challenge-Week-Three

Here’s whats left to get done:

One. Hire someone to come install my custom bamboo shades from the Shade Store!

Two. Finalize prints for my gallery wall.

One Room Challenge: Week Three
3

Hellooooo, week three! Can you believe we’re half way through the One Room Challenge? In case you missed it, take a peek at what happened Week 1 and Week 2.

This week was all about my desk area. From day one, I knew I wanted to get rid of the mini Ikea kallax shelf I had as my nightstand. Instead I wanted a desk that could also double as my nightstand because I seriously needed somewhere to #WERK. It’s hard to believe but whenever I work from home, I blog from my couch or bed. Not ideal I can tell you that!

Anywho, deciding on a desk was one of the hardest decisions I had to make this One Room Challenge! I was going back and forth for days on whether or not I was going to go with West Elm’s Mini Mid-Century Desk. 1) It’s kind of pricey. 2) You can find a white desk pretty much anywhere. However, when I was shopping with a girlfriend one day and saw the desk in person, I knew it had to be mine. Positives: It came relatively fast and it was SO easy to put together. I’m so excited how it turned out this week.

Next up: Need to make a final decision on the chair. I’m leaning towards the Hans Wagner Wishbone which duh, you knew already since blogged it about this week. Also, I think I’m in a time crunch to finalize prints for my new gallery wall (only three weeks left!). Please leave a comment if you love any pieces of art or photographs I should incorporate!!! Much, much appreciated.

P.s. how cute is my little fiddle leaf fig tree?! Not kidding I got it on Amazon ($29.99) and I’m obsessed!!

Until next week, my friends. Xo. Lauren
